HALTON LEARNING FOUNDATION

posted Aug 22, 2018, 6:38 AM by Marilyn Alcorn

“Colin” is 14. His mother works full-time, but there is very little money for extras. Colin wore the same two outfits to school every day. When his only pair of shoes started to fall apart he began to lack focus in class, embarrassed and distracted by his uncomfortably wet feet.

The school reached out to the Halton Learning Foundation for help and, within a day, Colin had new shoes, boots, clothes and a warm coat to ensure he could continue to come to school in the colder weather. His teachers say the new gear helped Colin fit in with peers and stay engaged in class.

The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) is a charity specifically established to help HDSB schools and the approximately 1 in 10 students who are considered financially vulnerable. HLF supports our students and families by providing immediate funds for basics like clothing, food and school transportation, and offering subsidies that help all kids participate in learning opportunities.

HLF is currently running a Back to School campaign designed to ensure that students like Colin have the school supplies they need to start the year off right.

To learn more or to help, please visit haltonlearningfoundation.ca or text BACKPACK02 to 20222 to donate $20 by September 30. No student in our community should be left behind.
